NaNoWriMo 2022 Log: Retrospective

I started the month making steady progress, was even slightly ahead of “par” at the midpoint, and then life happened. It was stressful and even when I had downtime I was too fried to focus on the novel. I eventually managed to get some more time here and there and ended the month at 37 hours, which all things considered I call a victory even if it wasn’t a win. I’m really happy with this manuscript and I think these revisions are going to make it even better.

NaNoWriMo 2022 Log: Day 15

Got in another 2 hours of scene auditing at BSpec writing night. Currently stuck on a scene where I’m not sure what internal realization/decision the protagonist needs to have. Need to mull this over, maybe map out her inner journey.

NaNoWriMo 2022 Log: Murderbooze

I just got back from BSpec’s Murderbooze retreat. Over the four days I only spent about 7 hours actively working on the novel, but had a lot of thinking time as well. I identified a subplot and character to cut, what I need to flesh out to fill the gaps created, and feel pretty confident that my plot is in good shape. Now I’m going scene by scene outlining them and making notes on the big stuff that needs to change.

NaNoWriMo 2022 Log: Day 8

Spent some time expanding my plot beats into something closer to a synopsis, and worked on Goal, Motivation and Conflict for my protagonist. Went to BSpec writing night, always a great motivator for productivity!

NaNoWriMo 2022 Log: Day 7

Spent some time looking at the overall plot/pacing/beats for the novel and looking at my main character. Probably the biggest breakthrough today was not while I was sitting down to work on this stuff, though. It was when I was going about my day and suddenly connected the dots about what to do with a secondary character who feels underdeveloped.
